Welcome from
Mr David Barker - Principal
Welcome to The Oaklands Primary School – a vibrant, inclusive, and ambitious learning community in the heart of Acocks Green, Birmingham. I am incredibly proud to lead a dedicated and passionate team who place our children at the centre of all that we do.
As a two-form entry school and proud member of the Summit Learning Trust, our ethos is built around the Trust’s core values:
- Success Through Endeavour
- Ambition Through Challenge
- Strength Through Diversity
These values guide our daily practice, underpin our vision, and shape the culture of our school.
Central to our school identity is our motto: LEAF – Learn, Experience, Achieve, and Flourish.
This captures the essence of our approach to education. We want our children to grow through meaningful learning, rich experiences, and purposeful achievement, so that they not only succeed academically but also flourish as individuals. LEAF reflects our belief that education is about more than lessons—it’s about nurturing confident, curious, and compassionate young people who are ready for the world.
At The Oaklands, we are deeply committed to creating a safe, respectful, and supportive environment for every member of our community. We celebrate the rich diversity of our school and strive to ensure that all children are nurtured, listened to, and treated with equality and care.
We believe in the power of an enriched and varied curriculum to spark curiosity and promote lifelong learning. Our goal is to provide every child with the opportunity to grow academically, socially, and emotionally—challenging themselves and aspiring to be the very best they can be.
Our staff are role models and advocates for the values we instil in our pupils. Their commitment, professionalism, and passion play a crucial role in shaping the experiences and successes of our children.
We also place a strong emphasis on building positive relationships with families and the wider community as their support is vital, and we value the partnership that helps our school thrive.
